Black Hat is one of the most important gatherings in cybersecurity. For Unusual Ventures, it’s an opportunity to bring together the founders building the future of security with the executives responsible for protecting today’s enterprises.
Cybersecurity is a core investment thesis for Unusual Ventures. Our Founder and Managing Partner, John Vrionis, has been the Seed investor in more than a dozen category-defining cybersecurity companies, including Arctic Wolf, Socket, Traceable, Descope and Banyan Security. That track record gives Unusual a deep perspective on the founders, technologies, and opportunities shaping the next generation of enterprise security.
On August 3, we hosted a private Security Leaders Reception in Las Vegas, bringing together founders, CISOs, and senior security executives for a highly curated evening showcasing the best of the Unusual cybersecurity portfolio.
As AI accelerates innovation across the enterprise, it’s also expanding the attack surface and raising the stakes for security teams. The evening brought together security leaders from Glean, Salesforce, Kaiser Permanente, Meta, Sycomp, Guesty, Medibank, NATO, and Bayer, alongside founders from across our cybersecurity portfolio, including Harness, Cracken AI, Relyance AI, Tego AI, Crystal OS, Kipling Secure, and Kusari.
Together, these companies represent the breadth of innovation needed to secure the AI-powered enterprise—from runtime security and proactive, full-kill-chain cyber resilience to AI governance, tensor query engines, AI-powered software delivery, and software supply chain security.

We kept the room intentionally small and highly curated, inviting only senior security leaders and economic buyers with the authority to make enterprise security decisions.
Each founder briefly showcased their company, and was followed by conversations with CISOs and executives actively evaluating new security solutions.
That’s the power of the Unusual network: creating high-value connections between exceptional founders and the right decision-makers.
For us, events like this are about more than networking. As an early-stage investor, our role extends beyond capital. We help our founders build relationships with the customers, partners, advisors, and champions who can accelerate their growth.
We believe the next generation of cybersecurity companies will be built by exceptional founders solving increasingly complex problems across the enterprise. Our commitment is to back those founders early and connect them with the people and communities that can help them win.
We’re grateful to everyone who joined us in Las Vegas and helped make the evening a success.
The future of cybersecurity starts with exceptional founders. We’re here to back them early and help them build what’s next.
