Today, Unusual Ventures is excited to celebrate Descope’s launch from stealth, the availability of its platform, and our role as an investor in the company’s $53M funding round.

Descope’s eight founders are nothing short of amazing. They are experienced entrepreneurs with an authentic insight about how to change the game for a large audience with an acute, growing need: helping engineers move their apps beyond passwords, towards more secure and user-friendly authentication methods.

Descope’s goal is audacious, but the scale of the challenge is matched by the expertise and track record of the team. We know this because we have worked with the founders before. We’ve known Descope Co-Founder Rishi Bhargava for years, dating back to when he and Jyoti were at university in India together.

Beyond our deep partnership with Rishi, Co-Founder and CEO Slavik Markovich, and the rest of the founding team, we are strong supporters of innovation in the broader infrastructure and developer tools space, having invested in such iconic companies as AppDynamics, Harness, Sourcegraph, and Mulesoft. We are massive believers in the impact that developers can have, so anything we can do to equip them with better tooling and stronger security will be a net benefit in today’s world.

Looking forward, we see an even greater opportunity emerging. Identity is core for any application, but it’s tricky to get right and requires niche knowledge that many developers don’t have. As more developers are building more applications, this need will only become more pronounced. Descope levels the playing field and helps any app developer easily add authentication and user management into their products.

Descope has created a product that helps every developer build secure, frictionless authentication and user journeys for any application. Developers can integrate with Descope through no-code workflows, a set of client and backend SDKs, or comprehensive REST APIs.
